New Socks |
"Hi! We're New Socks. We met at the Canadian Railway Investment Forum in 2005. None of us knew anyone there, and we all felt very small in a very big place. Then we all sat at the same table for lunch and had all packed the same peanut butter and fluff sandwiches. Despite the fact that our sandwiches were so similar, we decided to trade them anyway. This is where our amazing adventure friendship began. We decided that if we were going to stay friends forever we needed to form a band. We asked our parents to teach us music and we hit the road! Our songs are about the more important things in life, like autumn, bikes, and eating lots and lots of food. We recorded our album NEW SO(ck)(ng)S in 4th grade classrooms across the country. We hope you like it!" |
Chris Reba - To Play to the Papers Acute: Sharp Maps
Now available for download on iTunes and at Amazon.com CD-R Release $8 (includes shippingwithin continental U.S.) |
To Play To The Papers Acute: Sharp Maps is written for an ensemble of 7-15 performers where instrumentation is unspecified. The work relies heavily on the improvisational skills of the performers. The score is written on two groups of flashcards. The first group of cards contains specific types of groupings, musical aesthetics and other performance-based instructions for the performers. The second set of cards contain three different types of musical transitions. Both sets of cards are randomly shuffled dictating the order of musical events and how the group must transition from one musical event to another. A conductor controls the flow of the piece by indicating to the performers when the musical material and transitions happen. This method of organization ensures that each performance of the piece will be statistically unique, and it helps keep the ensemble from falling into any kind of performance habits. This makes each performance of the piece unique for both the performers and listeners.
